Learning and Teaching News

As per a facebook post via our school page this week, Emerging Minds has been dedicated to advancing the mental health and emotional wellbeing of Australian infants, children, adolescents and their families. The organisation now leads the National Workforce Centre for Child Mental Health, delivered in partnership with the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS), the Australian National University (ANU), the Parenting Research Centre (PRC) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Emerging Minds develops mental health policy, interventions, in-person and online training, programs and resources in response to the needs of professionals, children and their families. They partner with family members, national and international organisations to implement evidence-based practice into the Australian context. Resources are freely available at this web hub: https://emergingminds.com.au

Emerging Minds Families can be accessed by families via the Emerging Minds website. They develop free resources to help all families access the right information, at the right time.

They work together with families and professionals and draw on the latest research to produce information and resources to help you support children’s mental health and wellbeing.

Junior Unit News

This week our Year 1 students experimented with different materials, techniques and processes to make a Tie Dye masterpiece. Students will be presented with these and encouraged to wear them for our Year One Fun Day on December 9th.

It was pleasing to see that our Year Two students were extremely informative and persuasive this week as they explained why their chosen animal was the ‘best’ during their Show and Tell.

Students are reminded to regularly practice reading and spelling their ‘Tricky Words’ located in the back pages of their diary.

Library

Junior Unit Book Reviews; Children in Year 1 and 2 have been working on writing book reviews for picture story, chapter and non fiction books. Over the next week these will be displayed in the library windows. The children know that we write reviews so that other people may find a book that they haven’t read yet that sounds interesting! All of the Junior Unit children have worked very hard to present their work!

The children in the Middle Unit are also finishing up their “My Interests” research slides. Some of these are amazing and it is great to see the children exploring a topic of their own choosing. These will be added to Seesaw over the coming week.

Overdue books:

A number of students have books that are currently overdue - 127 books altogether to be exact! This week, all students were given a slip that shows ALL of their current books (as of Wednesday morning). Please take this opportunity to check at home for any school books, identified with a Sacred Heart sticker, and return to the library. Some books may be in classroom boxes as well, so please ask the children to have a look there. If you are unable to find books, I ask that a parent emails me on wcollins@shmildura.catholic.edu.au. If you also come across a damaged book, please either email me or send it in with a note. I may be able to repair it.

Timetable: ***Please note that Prep students will borrow on Tuesday this week***
